The first thing I found wrong with using Windows under Boot Camp with my iMac was the horrendous sound. I updated the sound drivers from the Boot Camp install disc and from the supplier’s website. Neither of those produced decent sound, so I played with the mixer settings and got something almost sort-of kind-of not terrible.
Then one day I had to use headphones, so I would not disturb my wife, and like –insert dramatic text snippet here– the world of quality sound was given to me. I guess it goes to show that the obvious should be tried first!

I just finished closing on my first house. The whole process was somewhat surreal. It is amazing how easy and quickly it is to sign a few documents and have hundreds of thousands of dollars change hands and then be stuck for 30 years.

Saw this on Slashdot the other day. It is a port of the Processing Visualization Language to javascript. It looks pretty cool.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I have become old. My body is making more strange noises, my joints tend to crackle when I walk and I am cold most of the time. At this rate I should be ready for retirement in a couple of months.

TUAW has an article on how to send your Mac and email and have it snap a picture using the built in iSight and send it back to you. The method can be expanded to do other things like send yourself a file or less useful like start speaking to freak people out.

I have been a Firefox user for a while now and after I switched to the Mac that did not change. I found that Safari was just not up to snuff for what I needed to do. I happen to have run into SafariStand, which has some of the features that I really like to use. I have the ability to do a quick search from the context menu and have open in a new tab, which I used in Firefox with the context search plugin. It also offers web archive clips, history flow, a sidebar with previews of the open pages and more.
To complete the mix, I installed Inquisitor to have more powerful searches. There was some hubbub over the program, because the author added affiliate links in the search results and did not disclose that fact. However, now it is well known and that can be disabled if desired.
Right now, this combination makes Safari work great and meets my needs. Will I keep using it? I am not for sure, because Firefox 3 is looking pretty good and with all of its additions and new theme it may just pull me back.
